A termbase is a database containing terms, term translations, and term-related information, for example, a definition of the term. The purpose of a termbase is to reduce the amount of time and effort involved in translating new documents by enabling you to lookup term translations. - About SDL MultiTerm termbases
An SDL MultiTerm (Desktop) termbase is a database containing terms and term-related information. Each termbase can store an unlimited number of entries. MultiTerm is a concept-oriented system. Each termbase entry corresponds to a single concept. This means that an entry contains all the terms that describe the concept, as well as any additional information associated with that concept, for example, a definition. - Terminology recognition
Terminology recognition describes how SDL Trados Studio compares the current source sentence with the data in SDL MultiTerm (Desktop). MultiTerm automatically suggests terms as you translate your documents. This allows you to work with your termbases from within the Studio environment. - Local and Server-based termbases

Wildcards (*) are used as placeholders for unspecified characters in the search text. SDL Trados Studio locates all terms in the SDL MultiTerm (Desktop) termbase that match the search text. For example, the search text*berrycould be matched with the terms strawberry and blackberry. You can put wildcards anywhere in the search text, and you can use them more than once in the same search.
