Translating for a Regulated industry
If you are translating content for a regulated industry, there are certain best practices and settings that are recommended for translation.
When translating for a regulated industry where pharmaceutical companies localize product information, any changes that occur in the source language need to be mirrored in the languages to which you are translating. The best practices described in these workflows ensure that any changes are tightly controlled when they go into the target translations.

Supported file types
The workflows are designed to support the use of Microsoft Word 2007-2013 (*.docx) files only.
This allows for several key things. The ability to:
- View tracked changes in the source document in SDL Trados Studio. This ensures that the tracked changes you make in the target translation can be directly mapped to the source tracked changes. To do this, turn on Track Changes when making the edits to the target translation.
- Indicate a translation is complete when it still has tracked changes in the source and target segments.
- Generate the final document with tracked changes in the document.
- Send the document for external review in Word.
- Send specific files needed by the regulator for review.
