Translation memory and Automated translation > Auto-Substitution

The Translation Memory and Automated Translation > Auto-substitution settings determine if auto-substitution is enabled for dates, numbers, variables, alphanumeric strings, times, measurements and acronyms. These are all recognized tokens.

Auto-substitution of recognized tokens occurs when the matching source segment in the translation memory contains a recognized token that is different to that in the source segment in the document. When the translation memory is applied, SDL Trados Studio automatically substitutes the recognized token from the source segment in the document to the translation in the target segment.

Dates, times and measurements are also adapted to suit the format of the target language. This is called auto-localization. These settings are only available on the language pair level, since the date, time and measurement patterns are target language-specific. You can specify these patterns on the following pages:

  • Dates and Times
  • Measurements

These settings appear in multiple dialog boxes in Studio.
