XLIFF settings

Settings for XLIFF documents (*.xliff files).

Settings page

OptionDescription
Display segments from groups and trans-units with attribute translate='no' as locked content

If set, trans-unit segments with the attribute "translate" set to "no" are displayed as locked content. If this setting is disabled, these segments are ignored.

Do not store segmentation information in the translated file

The *.xliff standard specifies an element structure which shows information about the segmentation of the translatable content. This structure is automatically added when SDL Trados Studio generates the *.xliff document.

You may want to use this option if you will use the *.xliff file translated in Studio in an application that does not support *.xliff files with segmentation structures.

Include leading/trailing tags in segments

Enable to include tags into the segment content.

Tag text for XLIFF files
Default

For the following elements, the display text is extracted from actual value of the inline elements:

bpt

ept

it

For the following elements, the display text is extracted from the ctype attribute, or if that does not exist, the equiv-text attribute.

gx

bx

ex

If the attributes do not exist, the display text is set to the element name.

'equiv-text' attribute

The display text of the tag is extracted from the content of the equiv-text attribute of the inline element.

If the equiv-text attribute does not exist, the display text is set to the element name.

Tag content

This option applies only to paired inline elements, such a ph. The display text of the inline tag is extracted from the value of the tag pair.

If the text value does not exist, or the tag is not paired, the display text is set to the element name.

Display text length: the display text for the inline tags is truncated to this length.

Generate the document structure for "group" elements

Studio generates the document structure for group elements.

Generate the document structure for "trans-unit" elements

Studio generates the document structure for trans-unit elements.

The document structure will be generated from the following attributes

If an attribute is selected, it will be used.

Overwrite target-language attribute value when generating translated file

When Studio generates the translated file, it writes the language selected by the user into the target-language attribute value.

Segment status mapping page

Available options are:
Segment status mapping
File opening

Map the XLIFF status as defined in the specification for XLIFF 1.2 to the Studio status when opening a file.

File saving

Map the Studio status with the XLIFF status when saving a file.

Automatically lock segments with status

When Studio opens the source *.xliff file, it locks those trans-unit elements that have a status that is selected here.

Whitespace page

Available options are:
Whitespace
For *.xliff files, Studio only normalizes the whitespace within *.xliff trans-unit elements.
Always preserve

Do not normalize whitespace

Normalize unless xml:space='preserve'

Normalize whitespace unless the element includes xml:space='preserve'

Always normalize

Normalize whitespace and ignore xml:space='preserve'

Schema validation page
