Assigning custom field values to TUs
You can assign custom field values to a translation unit (TU) in a translation memory (TM), while translating or reviewing a file, directly from the Editor view.
About this task
When a TM match is found in the file you are translating, the TM match is displayed in the Translation Results window. When a concordance search is performed, the TM match is displayed in the Concordance Search window. You can assign custom field values to the TUs that are displayed in the Translation Results and Concordance Search windows. For example, if the TM contains a field called Usage, you could assign the value, Printed Guides to indicate that this translation should only be used for printed guides as opposed to help.
Procedure
- Go to the Projects view and select the project you want to work on.
- Go to the Files view and double-click the file you want to work on.
- In the Editor view, in the Translation Results window or Concordance Search window, right-click the TU that you want to assign a custom field to. From the context menu, select Edit Translation Unit.
- In the Edit Translation Unit dialog, under the Value column, in the Custom Fields box, enter text or select an option to assign a value to the TU.
- Select OK to save your changes and close the Edit Translation Unit dialog.
