Assigning or editing custom field values

You can assign values to the fields of your translation units (TUs) to indicate the context where TUs are used. For example, if the translation memory contains a field called Usage, you could assign the value, Printed Guides to indicate that this particular translation should only be used for printed guides as opposed to help.

About this task

You can also change currently assigned values.

Procedure

  1. In the Translation Memories view, make the translation memory for which you want to assign or edit custom field values the .
  2. In the TM side-by-side editor window, select the translation unit that you want to assign a value to. The field values currently assigned to the translation unit are displayed in the Custom Fields box in the Field Values window.
  3. Add or edit the custom field value:

    add a new value,

    in the Custom Fields box, click inside the Value box to the right of the Field name and either enter the value or select the value from the drop-down list. The status of the translation unit changes to Edited and the edit translation unit icon appears in the Translation Unit Status column.

    edit an existing value,

    in the Custom Fields box, click inside the Value box to the right of the Field name and either:

    • Select a new value from a picklist to replace the existing value.
    • Double-click the text value that currently exists. This makes the text available for editing. Change the value and click OK.

    The status of the translation unit changes to Edited and the translation unit icon appears in the Translation Unit Status column.

  4. When you have finished making changes to the current page of translation units, commit the by selecting Home tab > Save group > Commit Changes on the Ribbon.

Undo changes to custom field values

Procedure

  1. Select the edited segment.
  2. Select Home tab > Save group > Discard TU Changes from the Ribbon.
