Auto-Propagation

Auto-propagation means that SDL Trados Studio applies the text in a confirmed translation to all the other segments in the file that have similar source content. Auto-propagation takes place when you confirm a segment translation. If the segment has any similar segments, then depending on the settings you have chosen, the translation may be applied automatically to the similar segments or you will be asked if you want the application to take place.

Auto-propagation for reviewing files

You can also use Auto-propagation when reviewing files. Auto-propagation takes place when you approve (confirm) or reject a translation. Depending on your settings, the auto-propagated segments are then automatically approved or rejected, or have tracked changes applied to them with the new auto-propagated text.

Auto-propagation settings

The Editor > Auto-propagation default settings determine:

  • Whether or not auto-propagation is enabled
  • How similar the segments need to be for the confirmed translation to be auto-propagated
  • Whether you are prompted to auto-propagate when you confirm a translation
  • What status is given to a segment that has been translated by auto-propagation

The Editor > Auto-propagation default settings are displayed when you select File > Options from the Ribbon and then select Editor > Auto-propagation from the navigation tree, in the Options dialog.
