Configuring Text file types
Configure Text file type settings, so that you customize the way text files with one paragraph per line. are processed during translation or review.
Procedure
- Decide for which projects you want to configure file type settings:
- For the active project, go to the Projects view, and on the Home tab, select Project Settings.
- For all future projects, go to .
- Expand the File Types list, and select the Text.
- Select the Document structure page. In a Regular Expression Delimited text file, the Document Structure settings provide regular expressions that define the structure of the file. Specify regular expression patterns to define the start and end points of translatable text:
- Enter a pattern that identifies the start of translatable text in the Opening pattern text area.
- Enter a pattern that identifies the end of translatable text in the Closing pattern text area.
- Select Multiline if the text pattern can cover multiple lines.
- Select the Inline tags page to set the rules that specify the text that the software will convert to inline tags. Select Add rule.
- To provide opening and closing patterns of text
In Rule type, select Tag pair.
To lock the text within the tag pair, choose the Translate property Not translatable.
To display warning on improperly paired tags, check Notification in Other settings.
- To provide just one pattern for text to be extracted (for example an email address)
In Rule type select Placeholder. Under Advanced Settings, choose properties of the standalone tag.
- To provide opening and closing patterns of text
- Select the Common page and then choose which content becomes translatable. Select:
- Line breaks This setting only has an effect if you also specify a multi-line pattern for translatable text with the Text file type Document structure settings. Replace Line Breaks with inline tag has the same effect on the translated file as Keep Line breaks. The difference between the two is how line breaks are displayed in an editor.
- Notification to display warning messages if tags are not properly paired. This setting only has an effect if you also define tag pairs in the Text (Regular Expression Delimited Text) file type, Document structure settings.
- Unicode UTF-8 Byte Order Mark to choose when the SDL file support software should insert a UTF-8 Byte Order Mark (BOM) in the target document.
- Select the QuickInsert page.
- Specify QuickInsert settings to insert tags and formatting, or to insert text and special characters.
- Select OK.
