Confirming translations
Translations are confirmed at segment level. When you finish translating a segment or when you want to approve a translation during review, you should confirm the segment. Depending on whether the file is open for translation, review or sign-off, different options are available for confirming and approving the translation.
Confirmation options
To confirm a segment translation, do one of the following:
- Press Ctrl+Enter
- Go to the Editor view, and in the Home tab, in the Segment Actions group, select one of the following options:
- Confirm (Translated)
- Confirm (Translation Approved)
- Confirm (Signed Off)
You can also confirm a group of translations by holding down the Ctrl key and clicking on the segment number column to select the rows you want to confirm. Right-click in the segment number column of the last selected row and select from the context menu.
Confirming a translation with track changes
You can confirm translations that contain tracked changes in the source and/or target. You may want to do this if you are working in a regulated industry and are making changes to the target translation based on tracked changes in the source. This results in target tracked changes that directly map to source tracked changes that need to be included in the final file generated by SDL Trados Studio.
Post-confirmation automatic actions
- Depending on whether you have a file open for translation, review or sign-off, the following icons appear in the segment status column; this enables you to quickly see which segments have been translated/approved and which have not: Translated, Translation Approved or Signed Off
- The translation is automatically added to the TM. If the segment contains tracked changes then they are treated as accepted when the TM is updated. If you prefer, you can change the default system settings so that TM updates are performed manually. Automatic translation memory updating is controlled from the Options dialog.
- Segment verification is performed. Segment verification errors are displayed in the Messages window.
- The translation can be viewed in the Preview window.
- SDL Trados Studio automatically places your cursor in the next unconfirmed segment, skipping all locked segments.
By default, when the system applies a 100% TM match to a segment, the segment is automatically confirmed. If you are updating a different TM to the one where the match was found, an update is made to that TM. These are optional settings which are controlled from the Options dialog.
