Creating translation memory custom fields

You can customize the fields that describe the translation units (TUs) of your translation memories (TMs). For example, you could create a field called Customer to hold the name of the customer for which the TU was created.

Procedure

  1. Perform one of the following:
    • In the Translation Memories view, in the navigation tree, select the translation memory you want to edit.
    • If the translation memory does not appear in the navigation tree, select File > Open > from the menu bar and then select Translation Memory to open a local translation memory or Server-based Translation Memory to open a server-based translation memory.
  2. Select File > Settings from the menu bar (or you can right-click on the translation memory and select Settings from the shortcut menu). The Translation Memory Settings dialog box is displayed.
  3. Select Fields and Settings from the navigation tree. The Fields and Settings page is displayed on the right.
  4. On the first blank line under the Name column, enter the name of the new translation unit field.
  5. Complete the information in the other columns for that line.
  6. Repeat steps 5 and 6 if you want to create another field.
  7. Click OK again to save your changes and close the Translation Memory Settings dialog.
You can now assign values for the newly created fields to the translation units in the translation memory.
