Customizing QuickInsert to insert text or special characters

The QuickInsert group enables you to quickly insert text or special characters into the target translations. You can customize the buttons on the QuickInsert group. For example, you could insert a company name or you could use it to insert the special characters, such as guillemets (« ») which are used as quotation marks in French.

Procedure

  1. Decide where you want to use the QuickInsert button which inserts text or special characters:
    • For the active project, go to the Projects view, and on the Home tab, select Project Settings.
    • For all future projects, go to File > Options.
  2. In the File Types tree, expand the type of file for which you want to add a QuickInsert custom button.
  3. Select QuickInsert from your file type tree.
  4. Select Addor Edit.
  5. In the Add/Edit QuickInsert dialog, type a name and description. The description will be displayed as a tooltip when the user hovers the mouse over the button.
  6. In the Type box, select one of the following:
    • Select Standalone text to insert special characters or a commonly used word, such as a company name.
    • Select Text pair to insert text or special characters that will surround existing text in the target, such as guillemets (« »).
  7. Enter the text that you want to be inserted when you click the QuickInsert button during translation:
    • If you selected Standalone text, enter this text in the Start Text box.
    • If you selected Text pair, enter this text in the Start Text and End Text boxes.
  8. To display this as a button on the QuickInsert group, select Display in QuickInsert group.
  9. Select OK.

Results

The new QuickInsert item will now be added to the QuickInsert group when you translate files that use these settings.
