Editing target segments
To edit text in target segments, simply place the cursor inside the segment and start typing. You can use standard Windows text editing functionality and keyboard shortcuts as well as SDL Trados Studio editing tools.
- Activating rows for translation
When a row becomes the active row, a lookup is performed in the translation memory (TM) and the termbase. You can only edit the target segment for an active row. - Editing with Spell Check
When spell checking in the Editor, you can ignore words, replace words with a suggestion or replace words with your suggested text. - Editing with Spell Check as you type
When the Check spelling as you type option is selected, the document is spell checked as you translate, in the Editor window, of the Editor view. When you modify any text, the text is not spell checked again until you stop typing. Spelling errors are displayed as a red wavy line underneath the misspelled word. For example, the following is a misspelled word: - Editing with AutoSuggest
The AutoSuggest tool tries to predict what you are about to type and presents you with a list of words and phrases that also begin with the characters you have typed so far. If one of the words or phrases matches what you were about to type, you can select it and it is inserted into the current segment. The AutoSuggest tool is available in the Editor window, of the Editor view. - Editing with Find and Replace
Use Find and Replace to substitute all the instances of a given term or phrase in one shot. - Editing with Bookmarks
Use bookmarks to navigate to specific sections of your translation, so you can start editing the target segments faster. - Editing with Advanced Display Filter
Use the Advanced Display Filter to perform complex searches inside your segments. - Applying formatting
By default, when formatting tags are inserted, the text is formatted in the style specified by the tags, but the tags themselves are hidden. You can apply formatting to text in the Editor window, of the Editor view. - Copying and pasting text and formatting
To reduce translation effort, you can copy and paste text, tags and recognized tokens. - Inserting recognized tokens
Recognized tokens represent source file content which does not need to be translated or which can be automatically localized by applying a translation memory (TM). - Inserting symbols and special characters
You can quickly insert special characters and symbols in the SDL Trados Studio Editor window. - Locking segments
You can lock segments to prevent their content from being updated accidentally. If needed, you can unlock segments to edit them and then lock them again later. - Unlocking segments
When you want to update segment content, but the segments are locked, you can easily unlock them to make your changes. - Merging segments
You can combine two segments into one segment, in the Editor window, of the Editor view, when the automatic segmentation rules do not perform an accurate, linguistic parsing of your text. - Splitting segments
You can split a segment into two segments in the Editor window, of the Editor view, when the automatic segmentation rules do not perform an accurate, linguistic parsing of your text. - Filtering segments
You can apply filters to the segments in the active document. Only segments that match the conditions of the filter are displayed in the Editor window.
