Managing file types
You can modify the list of available file types by re-ordering the files, creating new file types or removing existing file types. You can also export all the file type settings, and import settings that have previously been exported.
- Creating custom file types
You might want to create your own specific file type, for example to handle XML files created by other applications. You can choose to create several custom file types: Simple Delimited Text, HTML, Regular Expression Delimited Text, XML (Embedded Content) and XML (Legacy Embedded Content). - Creating custom file types based on configurations
When you create custom file types based on configurations, you use import files which contain file type settings for a specific file type. - Removing file types
When you remove a file type, SDL Trados Studio no longer recognizes files of this type in projects that you open or create in the future. - Enabling file types
By enabling file types, you allow SDL Trados Studio to process those file types for translation. - Disabling file types
By disabling file types, you prevent SDL Trados Studio from processing those file types during translation. - Order of the file types in file type list
To find a match, SDL Trados Studio searches this list starting at the top, and working its way downwards. It processes a file as the first file type which matches. It is for this reason that, when you create a file type, the SDL software puts the new file type at the top of the list. - Identification of file types by name and extension
SDL software uses the name of a file to identify the file's file type. For XML files, the software additionally uses rules about the file contents. You can specify the file names with a wildcard specification or a regular expression. You provide these rules in the File Type Information page of the Create File Wizard.
