Open Document

In the Open Document dialog, specify the following in your new translation:

  • Source and target language
  • Translation memories
  • Automated translation provider

To display this dialog, select File > Open > Translate Single Document and browse for a file. Starting a translation using this method bypasses the selections you make when using the New Project wizard. For example, you do not specify settings for pre-translation. Using the Translate Single Document command, you can create and save an *.sdlxliff file which contains source language segments only and then, from this, create further *.sdlxliff files which have a target language assigned to them.

Once you have created the *.sdlxliff file, you can modify translation memory settings using the Project Settings dialog.

BoxDescription
Source Language

The original language of the document.

Target Language

The language in to which you want to translate. This box is optional and can be specified later in the Active Document Settings dialog box.

Translation Memory and Automated Translation

The translation memories are ordered by priority (highest priority being the first translation memory in the list). This translation memory priority is used to determine the order in which translation memory suggestions are made.

Create Translation Memory

Select to create a translation memory that is stored locally in a file. The New Translation Memory wizard is displayed. Complete the pages of the New Translation Memory wizard and select Close

Expand the drop-down list and select Create Server-based Translation Memory to create a translation memory stored on a server. The New Server-based Translation Memory wizard is displayed. Complete the pages of the New Server-based Translation Memory wizard and select Close.

UserSelect the translation memories and automated translation providers you want to add to the project:
  • File-based Translation Memory - Select this to add a translation memory that is stored locally in a file. The Open Translation Memory dialog box is displayed. Browse to the location of the file, select it and click Open.
  • Server-based Translation Memory - Select this to add a translation memory stored on a server. The Select Server-based Translation Memory dialog box is displayed where you can connect to a server and select the translation memories.
  • SDL BeGlobal Enterprise - Select this to connect to SDL BeGlobal Online or to the SDL LW Enterprise Translation Server. These options allow you to access a more specialized automated translation service where the software is trained by leveraging existing translation assets. Use the SW Enterprise Translation Server option if your company has purchased an installation of Language Weaver Enterprise Translation Server and installed it on a server. Use the BeGlobal Online option if you or your company has purchased the SDL BeGlobal hosted services (Software as a Service). This requires a user and API key for authentication.
  • SDL Language Cloud Machine Translation - Select this to connect to the machine translation engines that you subscribed to from your SDL Language Cloud account. The Language Cloud MT engines are trained using domain-specific content to generate translation results that typically require less post-editing.
  • AnyTM - Select one of the AnyTM options that increase the number of translation memories you can leverage into your project.
  • Google Translate - Select this to connect to the Google Cloud Translation automated translation server. This is now a paid for service that requires an API key. The API key you enter here will update all other projects that use Google Cloud Translation.
  • SDL WorldServer Translation Memory - Click Add and select SDL WorldServer from the drop-down list. Select a translation memory or translation memory group.
