You can open an *.sdlxliff file to translate it. You can open files from the Files view (if you work with files in a project) or by using the Translate Single Document command (if you work with a single file). You can also quickly open a file for translation via a drag-and-drop operation, from your computer into the Editor View Navigation Pane or the Editor Window.
Before you begin
If you received your files in a package for translation, you must first open the package before you can open the files for translation.
Procedure
- Go to the Files view. All the files in the active project are displayed.
- In the box at the top of the Files view navigation pane, select the required target language. Project files for the target language are displayed on the right.
- Right-click the file and select Open for Translation from the context menu (you will notice that the files have been converted to
*.sdlxliff format). The file opens in the Editor view. Project translation memories (TMs), AutoSuggest dictionaries and termbases are automatically opened in the Editor view.
- If you are working with a SDL Trados GroupShare server-based project, you are prompted to check out the file from the Trados GroupShare Project Server. Select Check out and edit the file to check out and open the file in the Editor.
Note: When finished with your translation and have saved and closed the document, switch to the Files view, right-click the file that you have just edited and then select Check in.
