Review workflows for a Regulated Industry

After you have finished translating a file, you can send it for review before generating the final translated document. These workflows enable you to send files to several different levels of review and to reviewers who can review files in SDL Trados Studio or outside SDL Trados Studio.

During this process, you can, for example, get a subject matter expert review to check the meaning in the translated text and a proofreader review to check for the spelling and punctuation. There are several review workflows available, but this chapter focuses on Regulated Industry workflows only.

Package-based workflows

You can use the following workflows to send files for review to other users of SDL Trados Studio:

Project Package Translation

If you are working offline, without a shared environment like SDL Trados GroupShare, you can send files for review in a project package to other SDL Trados Studio users.

Project Package Translation via SDL WorldServer

If you receive or are working with SDL WorldServer packages, you can translate or review them in SDL Trados Studio, and then send them back to SDL WorldServer.

GroupShare-based workflows

If you are working in a shared, online environment, like SDL Trados GroupShare, when a file is assigned to users in the Review phase, users receive a notification email with a link to the file they must review.

Regulated Industry workflows

You can also send files for review to reviewers who do not have SDL Trados Studio.

Reviewing bilingual files with Word

If you are part of a workflow where the reviewer does not have SDL Trados Studio, you can export your *.sdlxliff file as a bilingual review file in Microsoft Word format. Reviewers can then review the file in Word and update SDL Trados Studio with the corrections. For additional external review file formats, see the available applications on SDL AppStore.

Reviewing exported target files

If you need to send the file for review in its native format, and then import the changes back into your project, you can use the SDL Trados Studio Retrofit feature.

When importing the reviewed target file, you can also check and, if necessary, correct the reverse alignment.

Regulator review bundle

If you work in a Regulated Industry and have purchased a license containing this feature, you can send a bundle of files to an external regulator for review. This bundle contains a specific collection of files needed by the regulator. The regulator is then able to review the documents in Word and you can update SDL Trados Studio with the corrections.
