Using SDL MultiTerm termbases
SDL Trados Studio can leverage terminology resources from SDL MultiTerm or SDL Language Cloud.
You can create a termbase from Trados Studio or use an existing file- or server-based termbase. See the MultiTerm Help for information about how to create a MultiTerm termbase.
You can also connect to Language Cloud Terminology.
- Creating termbases
Create a new MultiTerm termbase from SDL Trados Studio. - Using termbases
The MultiTerm termbases that you add to the Termbases list are used in your project based on their order. - Opening termbases
If you already have default termbases selected in the Options dialog or termbases selected in your Project Settings, these termbases open automatically when you open a file for translation. However, you can open other termbases, in the Editor, during translation. - Adding termbase entries with review
You can add new terms to an SDL MultiTerm termbase directly from your active file open in the Editor view of SDL Trados Studio . You can only add terms to the active termbase. The procedure described below is only valid for the default termbase layout. - Editing termbase entries
You can edit the termbase entries of an SDL MultiTerm termbase from the Editor view available in SDL Trados Studio . This is useful if you correct a mistake or enter additional information in the termbase entry, for example, a definition. - Specifying which termbase to update with new terms
The default termbase determines the languages that are used. You can add termbase entries to the default termbase, during translation, directly from the Editor view. - Specifying the order of termbase suggestions
Termbases on the Termbases page are ordered by priority (highest priority being displayed first in the list). The termbase priority is used to determine the order of termbase suggestions. You can change this to give priority to suggestions from some termbases that may have the most relevant terms. - Inserting a term translation
You can insert term translations from your SDL MultiTerm termbase search results into your active document, in the Editor view. - Browsing termbase entries
You can browse termbase entries for consultation or specific look-up. - Searching termbase entries
SDL Trados Studio automatically searches the termbase when you place your cursor in a segment. - Improving termbase search results
SDL Trados Studio performs a termbase search when a segment becomes the active row or you can choose to manually perform a termbase search. Settings are available to change what results are returned and also change the way that the termbase is searched to improve performance. - Filtering termbase results
Filters restrict the results that SDL MultiTerm displays when you search a termbase during translation. You must create filters in SDL MultiTerm before applying them. For example, you can use a filter when searching a termbase to show only those entries that were created or modified after a certain date. - Terminology recognition settings
Use the Search Settings page in SDL Trados Studio to specify which results are displayed during termbase searches and to specify the order in which termbases are searched when searching multiple termbases.
