Classifying content and bulk classification

Tagging your content with Keywords applies a knowledge map to your content to define how content is related. As a taxonomy will often evolve over time and become enriched, reduced, or broadened, you can perform heavy restructuring operations using Classify, Unclassify, and Reclassify operations to better categorize your content.

Classifying content
You use taxonomies to define the possible list values of a Component or Metadata fields as follows:
  • Create a Schema, Multimedia Schema, or Metadata Schema and apply a Category to a field—for information on creating Schemas, see Schemas and List fields
  • Create a Component—choose the value of a field, or metadata field, from a list of Keyword values as defined by the Category specified by the Schema
  • Create a Multimedia Component, Folder, Virtual Folder, Structure Group, Page, Keyword, Page Template, Component Template, Template Building Block—specify a Metadata Schema, and choose the value of a metadata field from a list of Keyword values as defined by the Category specified by the Schema
Bulk classification
Bulk classification of content allows you to add/remove/replace a Keyword association from one or more Content Manager items such as Pages and Components. This section describes the following topics:
  • Classifying content—allows you to add a Keyword association to one or more Content Manager items
  • Unclassifying content—allows you to remove a Keyword association from one or more Content Manager items
  • Reclassifying content—allows you to replace a Keyword association in one or more Content Manager items
You can perform Classify/Unclassify/Reclassify actions provided that the action does not violate Schema rules. Successful classification results in a new version of an item, but if the item is associated with a Workflow Process the item does not, by default, enter Workflow. To enable Workflow after classification, you need to configure the Start workflow process on classification action setting in the SDL Tridion MMC Snap-in. You can access the Snap-in to MMC from the option SDL Tridion > SDL Tridion Content Manager configuration in your Windows Start menu.
