Compound Templates
You create Compound Templates in Template Builder by adding Template Building Blocks to your template, arranging them into a sequence, setting parameter values for each, and running them against content. Then open the Compound Template in Content Manager Explorer to define its behavior during and after publishing.
- Creating Compound Templates
You create Compound Templates (Compound Page Templates, Compound Component Templates, or Template Building Blocks) in Template Builder. - Opening Compound Templates
You open a Compound Template in Template Builder by navigating to the Folder where the Compound Template is located in Content Manager. Alternatively, you can open the template if displayed in the Recent items list. - Assembling Template Building Blocks in a Compound Template
In Template Builder, you can add, delete or move Template Building Blocks to a Compound Template. The sequence in which the Template Building Blocks are ordered is the sequence in which the Compound Template executes the Template Building Blocks. - Setting parameter values for Template Building Blocks
Template Building Blocks in your Compound Template may have parameters (as defined by the Parameters Schema associated with the Template Building Block) that you need to set. Parameters appear in the Parameters view when you select a Template Building Block. If you have added default Template Building Blocks, refer to the relevant documentation for possible values. - Running Compound Templates
After you have assembled Template Building Blocks in a Compound Template in Template Builder you need to run a Page Template against a Page, a Component Template against a Component, and a Template Building Block against a package to check the correct functioning or the template. - Creating Dynamic Component Templates
In the Content Manager Explorer you can open a Compound Component Template and set whether Component Presentations based on this Component Template will be added dynamically or statically to a Page. - Configuring Component Template Priority
In the Content Manager Explorer you can open a Compound Component Template and set the Priority. A content author can create a hyperlink to a Component that is used in multiple places on a Web site. The Priority of a Component Template determines the likelihood of a Component which uses the Component Template being the target of this hyperlink. - Configuring Component Template Output Format
In the Content Manager Explorer, you can open a Compound Component Template and set the Output Format. The Output Format specifies the language of the fragment that this Compound Component Template produces. - Configuring Component Template Linked Schemas
In the Content Manager Explorer, you can open a Compound Component Template and specify Linked Schemas. Linked Schemas specify the Schemas of Components that a Compound Component Template can render—Compound Templates typically contains references to data, and metadata, fields that exist in a certain Schema or Schemas. - Configuring Page Template File Extension
In the Content Manager Explorer, you can open a Compound Page Template and specify the File Extension you want to give to the Web pages rendered using this Page Template. Your Web server or Web and Application Server may handle Web pages differently based on the extension of the file. - Configuring Compound Template Metadata Schemas
