Installing the Cache Channel Service server role as a Windows service

On Windows, use the Content Delivery installer to install the Cache Channel Service, which synchronizes caches, as a 64-bit Windows service. If your Cache Channel Service uses RMI, it must be running and listening on the configured host and port for remote synchronization to function.

Procedure

  1. Open a command prompt.
  2. Access the SDL Tridion installation media.
  3. Navigate to the Content Delivery\installer\ folder and run the file startCDinstaller.bat.
  4. Follow the instructions on the screen and select to install the Cache Channel Service in a location you select. Note that as a final step, you can save your installation settings to an XML file. This is useful if you want to reinstall the Cache Channel Service again later on another machine.
    The Cache Channel Service is installed as a Windows service on the local host, listening on the default RMI port 1099. Note that because this is a 64-bit Windows service, it also requires a 64-bit JVM.
  5. Only if you need to change the default host name or port number for the Cache Channel Service, change the following Registry Key value:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE->SYSTEM->CurrentControlSet->Services->TCDCacheService

    Change the value of the ImagePath for the parameters to pass to the Cache Channel Service.
