Obtaining a certificate from your CA for your microservice SSL keystore

With your private key, create a certificate request and submit it to your Certificate Authority (CA) to obtain a certificate.

Procedure

  1. In a folder that contains your private key file, run the following OpenSSL command:
openssl req -new -key KEY.FILE -out OUTPUT.FILE
    where:
    • KEY.FILE is the name of your private key file, for example, mymicroservice.key.
    • OUTPUT.FILE is the name of the certificate request file you are creating, for example, myrequest.csr.
  2. Open OUTPUT.FILE and copy its contents to your clipboard.
  3. On the Web site of your CA, follow the steps to request a certificate. Choose to paste the request and paste the contents of your clipboard.
  4. Wait for CA to send you an email containing the requested certificate, or a link to it.
  5. Store your certificate, named something like certificate.cer, in a safe place, and never share it with anyone.
  6. If you do not have CA intermediate certificate running on your system, contact your CA authority to obtain one.
