About installing Mobile Simulator

Mobile Simulator allows you to preview content in Content Manager Explorer and SiteEdit as it is displayed in a mobile device. The procedure for getting Mobile Simulator up and running is summarized below:

Installation overview
Installing Mobile Simulator involves performing the following tasks:
  1. Read the prerequisites
  2. Run the Mobile Simulator installer and specify:
    • the TCM URI of the Target Type of your SiteEdit-enabled Staging Web site so that you can use Mobile Simulator in SiteEdit.
    • the host name of the Web server where mobile content is rendered for your staging environment (if you are using NetBiscuits, this is the NetBiscuits proxy).
  3. Make sure that the Type of Publications intended for the mobile channel is set to Mobile.
  4. Create a Mobile Simulator Metadata Schema and apply it to Publications so that you can specify a different Mobile Preview URL for different Publications.
  5. Configure Phones.xml to specify which mobile devices you want to be able to preview content.
  6. Configure the MobilePreview.config to change settings you specified when you ran the installer.
Installation overview (NetBiscuits)
Installing Mobile Simulator for NetBiscuits requires additional configuration:
  1. Create a Custom Application in NetBiscuits to serve mobile content to SiteEdit and Content Manager Explorer.
  2. Configure the <simulatorlink> element in the MobilePreview.config to point to the NetBiscuits Custom Application.
