Adding SmartTarget Promotions

You can add SmartTarget Promotions to an Initiative. You can define a Promotion as an Entry Asset.

Before you begin

To use Promotions in Initiatives you need SmartTarget installed and configured.

About this task

SmartTarget Promotions define what content should be displayed in a SmartTarget region of a Web page and when. The content displayed in the Promotion to a Web site visitor depends on factors such as their user profile, the type of Page they are viewing, what content they are searching for and so on.

When you generate a report for the Initiative, the report contains the Component Presentations and Pages that displayed the Promotion the most frequently. For more information, see:

Procedure

  1. Open the Online Marketing Explorer.
  2. Open an Initiative:
    1. Navigate to where your Initiatives are stored in the Initiative Management navigation pane.
    2. Click a Publication.
    3. Browse through the Folder structure to locate your Initiatives. The Initiatives overview screen displays all the Initiatives in the currently selected Folder.
    4. In the canvas, double-click an Initiative or click Open in the ribbon toolbar to open it for editing.
  3. In the Asset Library, browse through your SmartTarget Assets:
  4. Drag-and-drop a Promotion onto the canvas.
  5. Connect the Asset.
  6. To define the Promotion as an Entry Asset, select the Asset on the canvas and in the Assets tab select the Entry Asset check box:
  7. Save the Initiative.
