Activity
An Activity is a step in a Process. An Activity are performed on zero or more Work Items.
An Activity is called an Activity Instance if it is part of an active Process (that is, a Process Instance). An Activity Instance can exist in one of the following states:
- Assigned
- The Activity has been assigned to a Group, any of whose Users can pick up the Activity. (An Activity can also be assigned to a single User.)
- Started
- One User from the Group has picked up the Activity assigned to the Group, and is now performing the Activity.
- Finished
- The User who performed the Activity has indicated that they are done with the Activity by finishing it. A new Activity in the Process is now active. Finishing an Activity may cause the item(s) being processed to obtain a specific Approval Status, which indicates the status of the item in workflow. In a Publication Target, you can set a Minimum Approval Status. This means that an item cannot be published to that Publication Target until it has reached that Approval Status.
Once its Process is finished, the Activity becomes an Activity History item.
Activities appear in various places in Content Manager Explorer and Experience Manager:
- All Activities
- In Content Manager Explorer, in the Administration tab, the node shows all Activity Instances, that is, all Activities that are part of a currently active Process. This screen shows both Activities that have not yet started, Activities that have started but not yet finished, and Activities that have finished.
- Detail view of an active Process or completed Process
- In Content Manager Explorer, in the Administration tab, in the or node, you can double-click a Process to show a list of its Activities in a new dialog. Selecting an Activity in the list shows its details in the bottom half of the dialog.
- Things To Do panel
- When an item is assigned to a group of users, all users in that group see the Activity appear in the Assigned screen in their Things To Do panel in both Content Manager Explorer and Experience Manager. When a user starts an Activity, the Activity disappears from the Assigned screen for all group members, and appears for that one user in his or her Started screen.
