Adding Language Pairs

A Language Pair defines a source language for a translation and a target language.

About this task

A translation involves the translation of content from a source language to a target language. A part of designing your translation strategy involves identifying the languages in your organization in which (global) content is created (source languages) and which languages global content should be translated to (target languages). On SDL TMS, you need to define a Language Pair for each possible source to target combination. A Language Pair can have one or more Workflows assigned to it to define the flow of tasks involved in completing a translation.

Procedure

  1. Open SDL Translation Management System (SDL TMS).
  2. Select the Setup tab at bottom left.
  3. In your Organization > Languages > Language Pairs folder, click Add Language Pair.
  4. Specify the source language for a translation and target language.

The following image shows examples of Language Pairs defined in SDL TMS which can be processed for the selected organization. Translation Jobs cannot be translated from or to a language which does not appear here. A Language Pair can be specific for this organization or can be inherited from a parent organization.

  5. Click Submit.
