Appearance of a closed set

The possible values of a text, number of date field can be restricted to a closed set. While adding such a closed-set field to a Schema, you can choose how Content Manager Explorer shows the set of values to the end user.

When you select Values will be Selected from a List, Content Manager Explorer reveals a dropdown list called List Type. This dropdown has the following values:

Drop-down list

Values appear in a dropdown, only the first value is initially displayed.

If you choose this appearance, the end user can pick only one value and the field is by definition a single-value field.

Select box

Values appear as items in a box. The height of the box is determined by the Height setting. If there are more values to choose from than the height of the box, a scrollbar appears.

If you choose this appearance, you can choose to allow the user to pick multiple values or to pick only one value, by selecting or clearing Allow Multiple Values, respectively.

Radio buttons

Values appear as radiobuttons (also called option buttons). By changing the value of Radio Buttons per Line, you can change the number of columns in which the values appear.

If you choose this appearance, the end user can pick only one value and the field is by definition a single-value field.

Check boxes

Values appear as checkboxes. By changing the value of Boxes per Line, you can change the number of columns in which the values appear.

If you choose this appearance, the end user can always pick more than one value and the field is by definition a multivalue field.

Tree

You can only choose this appearance if your values are taken from a Category (that is, if you select Category and pick a Category).

If you choose this appearance, the end user can always pick more than one value and the field is by definition a multivalue field.
