Assembling Template Building Blocks in a Template

In Template Builder, you can add, delete or move Template Building Blocks in a Template. The order in which the Template Building Blocks are arranged is the order in which the Template executes the Template Building Blocks.

The following image shows the icons and context menu for modifying the Template:

Procedure

  1. Open a Template in Template Builder.
  2. Check the Building Blocks panel for a list of available Template Building Blocks.
  3. In Building Blocks view, find the Template Building Block you want to add. This view contains all the Template Building Blocks in the current Publication that you are authorized to access. Click the horizontal tabs to hide or reveal Template Building Blocks.
  4. Drag and drop the Template Building Block from the Building Blocks view to the Compound Template view. A horizontal bar shows the drop location while dragging.
  5. Select a location in your Template, select the Template Building Block in the Building Blocks view, and do one of the following:
    1. Click the Add Template button in the toolbar.
    2. Select Edit > Add Template from the menu.
    3. Press Ctrl+Insert.
    Template Builder inserts the Template Building Block below the selected Template Building Blocks.
  6. To delete a Template Building Block from the Template, select the Template Building Block in Compound Template View and do one of the following:
    • Right-click the Template Building Block and select Delete from the context menu.
    • Click the Delete button.
    • Select Edit > Delete from the main menu
    • Press Delete on the keyboard.
  7. To move a Template Building Block to another location in the sequence of Template Building Block invocations, select the Template Building Block in Compound Template view and do one of the following:
    • Drag and drop the Template Building Block to the desired position
    • Right-click the Template Building Block and select Move Up or Move Down from the context menu, to move it up or down one position in the sequence.
    • Click the Move Up or Move Down button in the toolbar to move it up or down one position in the sequence.
    • Select Edit > Move Up or Edit > Move Down from the main menu to move it up or down one position in the sequence.
    • Press Ctrl+Up or Ctrl+Down to move it up or down one position in the sequence.
  8. To cut or copy a Template Building Block and then paste it somewhere else in the sequence of Template Building Block invocations, select the Template Building Block and do the following:
    • Press Ctrl+X to cut, or Ctrl+C to copy.
    • Right-click the Template Building Block and select Cut or Copy from the context menu.
    • Select Edit > Cutor Edit > Copy from the main menu.
    • Click the Cut or Copy button on the toolbar.
  9. To paste, select a Template Building Block and do one of the following to paste the Template Building Block on the clipboard below the Template Building Block you selected:
    • Press Ctrl+V.
    • Right-click the Template Building Block and select Paste from the context menu.
    • Select Edit > Paste from the main menu.
    • Click Paste.
