Configuring Source/Target content

A Publication, Folder, Structure Group, or Category can contain content that requires translating and this translated content can also be used as the source of a translation. For example, an organization may have source content in Japanese which is translated to English and then from English to other European languages. In this case, you need to configure the Publications, Folders, Structure Groups, or Categories that contain source and target content.

Before you begin

To configure an item that contains target content and source content, you must have Translation Configuration rights for the Publication and you must first have configured Publications, Folders, Structure Groups, or Categories that contain source content in a Parent Publication in the BluePrint hierarchy.

You also require the following information, depending on the translation system you are using:
  • SDL TMS requires the Configuration ID (GUID)
  • SDL WorldServer requires Client and Project Type information

Procedure

  1. Select the Publication, Folder, Structure Group, or Category which contains content in a source language and choose Properties from the context menu.
  2. Select the Translation tab.
  3. Set Item is configured for translation to Yes.
  4. In the Item is configured for translation section:
    1. Select the Source for translation radio button.
    2. Optional: In the Send notification e-mail to field, enter a comma-separated list of e-mail addresses of people who need to be notified when items are sent for translation.
  5. Configure the Translation source configuration section:
    • For SDL TMS, enter a Configuration ID.
    • For SDL WorldServer, select a Client then a Project Type Configuration:
      • if you choose Always use a specific project type, select a Project Type from the drop-down menu that appears and optionally specify the default Project Type for each language in the Target language configuration section.
      • if you choose Specify project type for each job, select a Source language from the drop-down menu that appears.
    The language of the Source Publication is set and the Target language configuration shows a list of possible target languages.
  6. The Source language configuration displays the following properties:
    • Use—deselect if you do not want to use configured source content for translations (source content can be configured at many levels of the BluePrint hierarchy).
    • Language—the source language.
    • Item—the Publication, Folder, Structure Group or Category that contains source content.
    • Default Workflow or Default Project Type depending on whether you are sending translations to respectively SDL TMS or SDL WorldServer.
    • Authorization required:
      • For SDL TMS, if authorization is required Translation Jobs will stop at the Authorization workflow stage on SDL TMS.
      • For SDL WorldServer, the setting is not used.
  7. In the Translate item options section (available when you select Publication properties), select the items properties you want to send for translation.
  8. Click Save and Close.

Results

The items you configured contain content that requires translating (target content) and content that is the source of a translation.
