Controlling content sent for translation
Translation Manager has various properties and settings that allow you to control the content that is sent for translation and how to send it to your translation management system.
- Translatable content
You can send Folders, Components, Multimedia Components, Structure Groups, Pages, Categories and Keywords for translation. You can also send Bundles and Virtual Folders that contain these items for translation. The following list describes the actual content (Component fields, Metadata fields, and properties of these items) that are sent for translation. - Enabling translation of minor versions of Multimedia Components, Components and Pages
You can enable minor versions of content items to be translated. If you enable this feature, you can translate a content item if it is in workflow, if it is checked out, or of it is a non-checked-in item. To enable minor versions of Content Manager content items to be translated, switch this feature on in the Translation Manager configuration file. - Configuring maximum job size
The<MaximumJobSize>element in the TranslationManager.xml file specifies the maximum number of files allowed in a Translation Job when it is sent for translation. - Configuring job ID prefix
The<JobIdPrefix>element in the TranslationManager.xml file specifies a prefix which is appended to each Translation Job sent to the translation management system. - Aggregating Content Manager items in a Translation Job
Aggregation adds all the Content Manager items included in a Translation Job into a single item on the translation management system instead of in separate files for each item. - Including/excluding translation content
A Translation Job has several properties that allow you to control what content is sent for translation. - Writing ITS Rules
Translation Manager provides an ITS Rules document—TranslationManager.XHTML.ITS.Rules.xml file—where you can define the elements and/or attributes that you want to send for translation. For example, to control content sent for translation from a Format Area. - Configuring translatable properties
Publications, Folders, Structure Groups and Categories have Translate item options that allow you to select the properties of an item you want to send for translation. - Configuring translatable fields in Schemas
You can control what fields are sent for translation by configuring your Schemas. - Configuring linked items to be included in translation jobs
In Schemas, you can configure Component fields that are linked to other Components to also be translated when the 'container' Component is sent for translation. - Adding metadata information to Translation Jobs
You can add information about items that are sent for translation, this is called Metadata information. Once configured, it is sent as part of the Translation Job. - Recommendations for sending content
You must carefully consider what content to send for translation in order to maximize reuse through BluePrinting. This topic provides some guidelines and recommendations for translating content.
