Creating a Dynamic Component Template
When creating or modifying a Component Template in the Content Manager Explorer, you can set whether Component Presentations based on the Component Template will be added dynamically or statically to a Page. This task describes how to make an existing Component Template dynamic. This task applies only when using the template-based publishing model.
Procedure
- Open Content Manager Explorer.
- Navigate to a Publication and open a Folder that contains Component Templates.
- Open the Component Template by double-clicking it.
- In the General tab, specify the behavior of Component Presentations that use this Component Template. In the Component Presentations based on this Component Template will be drop-down menu:
- Select Published embedded on a Page if you have a static website or if the Component Presentations you create using this Component Template will only appear on one webpage on your website.
- Select Published as a dynamic Component if you have a dynamic website and if the Component Presentations you create using this Component Template are likely to appear on multiple webpages on your website.
- If you select Published as a dynamic Component, the Allow on Page using dynamic assembly check box appears. Selecting the check box means that end users in Content Manager Explorer can manually add a Component combined with this Component Template to a Page (dynamic inclusion). Deselecting the check box means that Component Presentations created using this Component Template can only be added to a webpage by a query or other code on the website.
- Click Save and Close to update the Component Template.
