Creating a system user (MTSUser) for Content Manager

The Content Manager requires a separate Windows domain user, known as the MTS user, to perform certain system tasks. Create this user before you install the Content Manager database and Content Manager server. After installation, you need to configure access permissions for this user.

Before you begin

Create and configure an MTSUser account on the domain controller machine of your Windows domain.

Procedure

  1. In your Windows Computer Management screen, navigate to System Tools > Local Users and Groups > Users.
  2. Right-click Users and from the context menu, select New User.
  3. Specify the user details as follows:
    FieldValue
    User nameMTSUser
    Full nameMTSUser
    DescriptionSDL Tridion Sites MTSUser
  4. Click Create to create the user.
  5. In the tree, navigate to and right-click the MTSUser you just created. From the context menu, select Properties.
A new window opens, showing the General tab of the user's properties.
  6. Ensure that Account is disabled and Account is locked out are both not selected.
  7. Click OK to close the MTSUser Properties dialog.
  8. Close the Computer Management screen.

Results

You have now created the MTSUser account. If, at any later time, you change the password, you must update the password in several locations:
  • in your search settings, whenever you next optimize your search collection
  • on your scaled-out search servers (if any)
  • in your Topology Manager environment, using the Set-TtmCmEnvironment cmdlet

What to do next

Store the MTS user credentials in a safe location because you will need to enter the credentials you specified here when you install the Content Manager server.
