Developing Web sites for devices
Web sites intended for display on devices are designed and styled completely separate from the normal Web site.
Developing Web sites for various devices is basically about designing a Web site which works with smaller screen sizes and which optionally can support additional features of those devices. Many of these Web sites use either HTML 4.0 or XHTML Mobile 1.0, or a framework such as .NET Mobile from Microsoft if the requirements are more complex.
The following diagram shows possible solutions for rendering Web sites in devices:
- Responsive Design—use CSS files to present a different layout of the Web site depending on the user-agent making the request.
- Third-party technology provider—use a mobile technology provider such as NetBiscuits to publish Web sites to the mobile channel.
- Mobile Templates—create dedicated Component Templates, Page Templates and style sheets that present a mobile version of your Web site.
