Granting a Group the privilege to create Sites

By default, only users with System Administration Privilege can use the Site Wizard to create Sites. You can change this by allowing one or more user groups to access the Site Wizard. Doing so grants access to the Wizard to all users within that group, and all of its subgroups.

Before you begin

A group can obtain the Privilege to create Sites in two ways:
  • By being a member of another group that has the Privilege. This is called an inherited Privilege. If it stops being a member of that group, or if the other group loses the Privilege, this group can no longer create Sites. To change a group's membership, you need the Group Management Privilege.
  • By having the Privilege assigned to it explicitly. This way, the group cannot lose the Privilege unless someone explicitly takes it away, to change a group's Privilege directly, you need the System Privilege Management Privilege.

Procedure

  1. Access the Content Manager Explorer website.
  2. From the Administration ribbon, select Groups > Show Groups.
  3. From the list of Groups, select and open a group to whom you want to grant the ability to create Sites.
  4. In the Group's dialog, select the Privileges tab. The group can create Sites if one or both of the following is true for the Child Publication Creation Privilege row:
    • The Inherited item is selected. If only this item is selected, this group has this Privilege by virtue of being a member of another group that has the Privilege.
    • The Group-specific item is selected. If this item is selected, this group will be able to create Sites regardless of its group membership.
  5. If the Group-specific item is not selected for the Child Publication Creation Privilege row, you can grant this group the privilege to create Sites, and the inability to have that privilege taken away indirectly, by selecting Group-specific for the item Child Publication Creation Privilege.
  6. If the Inherited item is not selected for the Child Publication Creation Privilege row, you can grant this group the indirect privilege to create Sites by virtue of its group membership. To do so, do the following:
    1. Select the Member of tab
    2. Select Add.
      The Select Items dialog opens.
    3. Select a group that you know has the Child Publication Creation Privilege.
    4. Click Select.
      The Select Items dialog closes.
    5. Back in the Group window, click Save to apply the change.
    6. Select the Privileges tab to verify that the Inherited item on the Child Publication Creation Privilege row is now selected.
  7. Select Save and Close to apply your changes.
SDL Tridion Sites grants access to the Wizard to all users in this group and in all subgroups of this group.
  8. Repeat as needed for other groups to which you want to grant the same access.
