Migrating ECL content

You can use Content Porter to migrate content related to the External Content Library (ECL) feature, specifically stub Components and stub Schemas.

General requirements

To use Content Porter for ECL migration, ensure the following are the same on both the source and destination Content Manager instances:

  • ECL configuration, including the same mount point
  • WebDAV URL of the source and destination stub folders, which enables Content Porter to import items to the proper location

The export process gives you the option to export only stub Components and not stub Schemas. This enables you to associate exported stub Components with different stub Schemas on the destination Content Manager. The next sections summarize the migration processes for both with and without stub Schemas.

Moving items with stub Schema

The following process describes how to migrate stub Schemas along with the stub Components.

On source system:On destination system:
  1. On the export wizard's step for selecting items, select the options to export both stub Components and stub Schemas.
  2. On the export wizard's step for selecting application data, select the check box External Content Library.
  3. Complete the export.
  1. Create a stub folder in the same location (same WebDav URL) as on the source system.
  2. On the import wizard's step for selecting application data, select the check box External Content Library.
  3. Complete the import.

Moving items without stub Schema

The following process describes how to migrate only stub Components and allow Content Porter to associate them with a stub Schema on the destination system.

On source system:On destination system:
  1. On the export wizard's step for selecting items, select the options to export only stub Components. Do not select stub Schemas for export.
  2. Complete the export.
  1. Check whether a stub folder exists in the same location (same WebDav URL) as on the source system, and if one does not already exist, create it.
  2. If the stub folder already contains a stub Schema, skip to the next step. If no stub Schemas exists, check out any item in the ECL mount point, and Content Porter will automatically generates the Schema.
  3. Complete the import.
  4. Verify that the imported stub Components are linked to existing stub Schema.
