Page metadata
You can enhance search functionality by allowing search engines to search for Page metadata so that search looks for keywords, specific subjects, or authors rather than searching text without context.
Index pages can be generated from a search engine using metadata on Pages. The index page can result from a query that is sent to a search engine when a Page is requested. For example, if a travel site sells both plane tickets and hotels, the hotel index can be a search for all pages that have the meta tag of “hotels”.
It is also possible to find related items as a set of links. These links can be generated by a search engine using a search for metadata.
Archives are often used for news items and press releases. By using an index page with a search engine it is possible to add a date parameter that allows the results to be displayed based on a date. As a result, the manual task of moving Pages to an archive directory can be avoided.
- Metadata from a Metadata Schema on the Page itself
- If your Page is based on an old-style Page Template, with no Page Schema associated, then any metadata fields for the Page will come from the Metadata Schema associated with that Page, as specified in the Metadata Schema field of the Page.
- Metadata from a Page Schema
- If your Page is based on an new type of Page Template, with a Page Schema associated, then any metadata fields for the Page will come from the Page Schema, which (among others) defines the metadata fields to be used with the Page.
