Promotions within the BluePrint
When you create a Promotion, you need to select a Publication from the BluePrint in which the Promotion will be available. This Publication is referred to as the Scope Publication.
By default, a Promotion is only available in the Scope Publication. You can choose to also include the Promotion in Child Publications. In this case, the Promotion in the Child Publications returns localized content.
The Publication you choose as the Scope Publication depends on how generic your Promotion is. When you create a Promotion, click BluePrint Hierarchy to visualize the Parent-Child relationships in the BluePrint.
- Create a generic Promotion applicable for all websites at a higher level in the BluePrint so that website Publications lower down the BluePrint can use it.
- Create a specific Promotion applicable for localized websites.
Content selection, including filtering, occurs on the Scope Publication level, and not at Child Publication level. When a Promotion is triggered, the content items that can appear in the Promotion are selected and filtered and then, if the Promotion is triggered in a Child Publication, the localized content items for that Publication are retrieved. Consequently, local items are never displayed in a Promotion that was created in a Parent Publication, and content is always filtered on the same value in the Parent Publication regardless of whether the filter value has been changed in localized Components.
