Publication content configuration settings
You can configure the default templates you want to use for content items in the Publication Content Configuration tab. By default, the settings use the system default templates that are created when you create a Publication (shown in the Content Configuration tab).
For example, the Default Page Template determines how a Page appears when you preview a Page in the Content Manager Explorer. Typically, you customize these settings according to the site design for this Publication.
- Default Page Template
-
You use the default Page Template for the following purposes:
- To preview Pages
- As the general Page Template of a Page when using the legacy, template-based publishing framework
- As the editable default set of Template Building Block invocations in newly created Page Templates
- Data Publishing Page Template
-
You use the Data Publishing Page Template as the general Page Template when publishing according to the data publishing model. Although data publishing still requires that you select a Page Template when creating a new Page, the Page Template itself is actually empty.
- Default Component Template
-
You use the default Component Template:
- To preview Components
- As the editable default set of Template Building Block invocations in newly created Component Templates
- Default Template Building Block
-
The contents of the default Template Building Block are used as the editable default source code in a newly created Template Building Block.
- Default Multimedia Schema
-
The Content Manager uses the default Multimedia Schema as the default Schema for Multimedia Components.
For example, immediately after installation, the Default Component Template is set to the Default Component Template system default item in the folder Building Blocks\Default Templates. This system default shows all the Data and Metadata fields in a table in various shades of gray, as shown in image below. You can see this visualization if you right-click a Component in Content Manager Explorer, and select Preview from the context menu.
