Purging and reindexing data
SDL Tridion Sites exposes a number of Windows PowerShell commands for purging or reindexing data in the Content Manager database. Use these commands to maintain your search index, and to prevent your Content Manager database from filling up.
- Loading the SDL Tridion Sites system administration .NET assembly
Before performing any purge or reindex task, load the SDL Tridion Sites system administration assembly. You may have already done this if you reindexed your search index during upgrade. - Reindexing search indexes
Use a reindex PowerShell script to reindex your search indexes. You can reindex all Publications, or select specific Publications to reindex. - Purging old versions of content items
Whenever a user edits and saves an item, Content Manager creates a new version of the item so that you can track changes and roll back to previous versions of an item. If users update items often, multiple versions may cause the database to fill up. You can purge old versions of items in Windows PowerShell. - Purging finished Workflow Process histories
When a Workflow Process instance has executed all of its steps, SDL Tridion Sites keeps a record of it in the form of a Workflow Process history. If many items are frequently subject to Workflow Processes, these histories can fill up your Content Manager database. To prevent this, purge the Workflow Process histories. - Purging finished publish transactions
When a publish action is finished, SDL Tridion Sites keeps a record of it in the form of a finished publish transaction. If many publish actions are frequently performed, these publish transactions can fill up your Content Manager database. To prevent this, purge the finished publish transactions. - Purging queues
SDL Tridion Sites maintains a number of queues for publishing, deploying, searching, Workflow, and batches. These queues also contain messages. You can purge messages in these queues to free up space in your database. - Purging batches
SDL Tridion Sites contains a number of batches, which you can purge to free up space in your database. - Purging application data
Add-on applications may add application data to (items in) the Content Manager. You can purge this data to free up space in your database.
