Removing a Parent Publication

You can remove the Parent Publication relationship from a Child Publication provided a number of conditions are met.

Before you begin

To create or delete Publications you must have system administration privileges. To modify a Publication or BluePrint, you need Publication Management rights.

The following restrictions apply to removing a Parent Publication:

  • The Parent Publication must not be the only direct Parent of the Child Publication.
  • Items in the Child Publication must not have been localized.
  • Local items in the Child do not use shared items; for example, a local Page in a Child Publication uses a shared Component from the Parent.
  • Local items do not exist in shared Folders or Structure Groups.
  • Shared items have not been published in the Child Publication.

Procedure

  1. Open Content Manager Explorer.
  2. In the Publications navigation pane, select the Content Management node.
  3. In the list view, select a Publication.
  4. Open the Ribbon toolbar Organize tab and click BluePrint Hierarchy .
  5. Select the Child Publication whose Parent Publication you want to remove, and in the Home tab of the BluePrint Viewer click Remove Parent.
  6. In the Remove Parent Publications dialog, select a Parent Publication and click Remove.

Results

The Parent Publication is removed from the Child Publication. The Child Publication no longer shares items from the removed Parent Publication.
