Simple formatting options

If text on your webpage allows for rich text formatting, a number of simple formatting options are available to you.

Format tab

The Format tab in the ribbon toolbar has the following simple formatting controls:

UndoUndoes the last action perform.
RedoRedoes the last undone action.
Font face(dropdown)Applies the font face you select. This dropdown list is only available if your application administrator has explicitly enabled it. It is disabled by default.
Font size(dropdown)Sets text to the font size you select.
BoldMakes selected text or, alternatively, the next typed text, bold.
ItalicMakes selected text or, alternatively, the next typed text, italic.
UnderlineMakes selected text or, alternatively, the next typed text, underlined.
StrikethroughRuns a horizontal line through selected text or, alternatively, the next typed text.
SubscriptPlaces selected text or, alternatively, the next typed text in a subscript position.
SuperscriptPlaces selected text or, alternatively, the next typed text in a superscript position.
Text colorChanges the color of selected text or, alternatively, the next typed text, to the one selected in the color picker popup.
Background colorChanges the background color of selected text or, alternatively, the next typed text, to the one selected in the color picker popup.
BulletsTurns the current paragraph into a bullet item.
NumberingTurns the current paragraph into a numbered list item.
Increase indentMoves the margin of the text to the right.
Decrease indentMoves the margin of the text to the left.
Show/Hide Formatting

Show formatting, specifically:

  • Draw boxes around paragraph-type elements such as headers, paragraphs, <div>s and list elements
  • Highlight abbreviations, acronyms and anchors.
Left-alignLeft-aligns the current paragraph.
CenterCenters the current paragraph
Right-alignRight-aligns the current paragraph.
Section Type(dropdown)

You can apply a header level to text within the Format Area. To apply a header level to text, place your cursor in the line that you want to add a header level to, and select an option from the dropdown:

Paragraph
Puts a <p> tag around the current paragraph.
Generic container (div)
Puts a <div> tag around the current paragraph.
Body text
Removes any tag around the current paragraph.
Heading 1, Heading 2,...
Puts a <hX> tag around the current paragraph, where X is the number of the heading.
Style(dropdown)

If defined, you can apply a style to the current selection. The Styles are predefined formatting items. These styles are predefined for the entire system. To apply a style to text:

  • Select the element to which you want to apply a style.
  • Select the style you want to apply from the Style dropdown.
Set LanguageSpecify that the selected content is in a specific language. This pops up the Language dialog, in which you can select a language or language-country pair from the dropdown control. The read-only text box next to it displays the language code that will be used. Click OK to apply your setting.

Insert tab

The Insert tab in the ribbon toolbar has the following simple formatting controls:

AnchorInsert an anchor at the current cursor position. This pops up an Insert Anchor dialog in which you specify the name of the anchor. Once created, you can link to the position of this anchor from a hyperlink.
CharacterInsert a special character at the current cursor position. This pops up an Insert Character dialog in which you can select a special character to insert.
Abbreviation

Insert an abbreviation or acronym. This pops up an Insert Acronym dialog in which you specify the following:

Type
Set to either Abbreviation (a shortened form of a word, such as "abbr." for "abbreviation" or "Dr." for "doctor"), or Acronym (a sequence of the first letters of a set of words, such as "WCM" for "Web Content Management").
Text
The text to display in the Component (the abbreviation or acronym).
Description
An explanation of what the abbreviation or acronym stands for; typically this would be the full form of the abbreviation or acronym.
Horizontal LineInserts a horizontal line at the current cursor position.
