Translation scenarios (single content master)
This section describes translation scenarios for the single content master BluePrint example.
Translating a Folder in the English Content Publication
The English Content Publication is the root Parent Publication and is configured to translate from English to German, English to Dutch, and English to French.
When a user selects a Folder in the English Content Publication and creates a Translation Job for all Components it contains, it results in a push translation. The system will look down the BluePrint hierarchy for Target Publications configured to receive the translated content. The Translation Layer contains Publications configured to receive the German, Dutch, and French translated content and so you can include all these translations in the Translation Job.
Translating a Structure Group in the German Translation Content Publication
The German Translation Content Publication inherits its content from the English Content Publication and shares its (translated) content to the German web site Publication. It is configured for Translations from English to German.
When a user selects a Structure Group in the German Translation Content Publication and creates a Translation Job for all Structure Groups and Pages it contains, it results in a pull translation. The system gets the items for translation from the Parent Publication where they were created or localized and looks for a configured Source Publication (at this level, or higher) in which the language pair English to German is configured. In this case, the source of the translation comes from the English Content Publication which is also configured for translations from English to German.
Translating a Folder in the Belgian (French) Web site Publication
The Belgian (French) Web site Publication inherits content from two parents; the Belgian (Dutch) Web site Publication and the French Translation Content. The Publication is configured for Translations from Dutch to French.
When a user selects a Folder in the French version of the Belgian Web site, and creates a Translation Job for all Components it contains, it results in a pull translation. The system gets the items for translation from the Parent Publication where they were created or localized and looks for a configured Source Publication (at this level, or higher) in which the language pair Dutch to French is configured.
The Folder may contain Components inherited from both its Parent Publications in which case:
- All global content is inherited from the French Translation Content Publication—Components inherited from here are not included in the Translation Job because no Source Publication exists at this level or higher which is configured for NL->FR translations.
- All local content created in the Belgian (Dutch) Web site—Components inherited from here are included in the Translation Job because the Publication is a Source Publication configured for NL->FR translations.
