Troubleshooting Content Porter
Content Porter offers a number of ways to troubleshoot the import or export process—you can expect problems when importing or exporting a large volume of content.
Note that you can also undo a successfully completed import. This is not strictly speaking troubleshooting. Refer to the user topics for more information on this functionality.
You can solve Content Porter problems:
- before you start the import or export
- after Content Porter finishes the import or export
- while Content Porter is importing or exporting
Checking your source and destination before you run an import or export can help prevent unwelcome problems during the import or export process. You can prevent some problems easily this way.
If your import or export is large and takes a long time, you can run Content Porter and instruct it to write all of its failed items to a special file. By examining the log files and fixing what went wrong with these items, you can retry an import or export of only those failed items.
If your import or export is small and short, or if you want to monitor import or export progress carefully, you would configure Content Porter to prompt you if items fail, and correct and retry them 'on the fly' during the import and export process.
