Upgrading a Content Delivery Server Role to a new environment

Depending on your specific upgrade path, you may need to (or want to) upgrade not only your Content Delivery software, but also your web application server (release and/or vendor), your operating system (release and/or vendor) or even your hardware. If so, this task explains what to do before performing the other upgrade steps.

Procedure

  1. Back up all web applications in your old environment that contain Content Delivery Server Roles.
  2. Upgrade your environment. This can mean any or all of the following:
    • Upgrading or replacing your web application server
    • Upgrading or replacing your operating system
    • Upgrading or replacing your server machine
  3. Restore and deploy your backed-up web applications. Note the following:
    • Switching web application servers may mean that your configuration needs to change. For example, WebLogic requires a separate file weblogic.xml; other web application servers do not. Refer to the installation topics for more information.
    • Switching web application servers may mean that your JARs need to change. For example, WebLogic and JBoss should not have certain JAR files needed by the other web application servers. Refer to the Content Delivery third-party JAR file reference for more information.
