Using or creating thumbnail icons for Templates

You can upload thumbnail icons for a Page Template or Component Template. The user sees those icons when changing the Page Template or Component Template in the gallery displayed in the Layout tab of the ribbon toolbar. The icons are intended to help the user decide which Template to select, and should visualize what the published Web page or Component Presentation would look like.

Procedure

  1. On the Tridion Sites installation media, navigate to the folder Experience Manager\Samples\Icons\Templates\, and then either to the Component Templates\ or Page Templates\ folder.
  2. Examine the icons in the folder to see if you want to use one for your Component Template or Page Template.
  3. If you do not want to use one of the predefined icons, you can create a custom icon by creating a 32x32-pixel image file for your Template. The icon should make clear what the resulting Web page or Component Presentation looks like, and how it behaves. Save the icon image to a location of your choosing.
  4. Access Content Manager Explorer and navigate to the Page Template or Component Template for which you want to configure a thumbnail icon.
  5. On the General tab, ensure that Enable for inline editing is selected.
  6. Under Preview icons, click Load from Disk for the option Icon in normal ribbon toolbar.
A local file selection dialog opens.
  7. Do one of the following:
    • To use a predefined icon, navigate to the Tridion Sites installation media and to the folder Experience Manager\Samples\Icons\Templates\, and then either to the Component Templates\ or Page Templates\ folder .
    • To use a custom icon, navigate to the folder in which you saved your custom icon files.
  8. Select the large icon file and click Open.
The General tab now shows the large icon, which has been converted to PNG format.
  9. Use Save and Close to commit your changes.

Results

User who browse the Component Template or Page Template gallery now see the icons you uploaded.
