Using the BluePrint viewer

The BluePrint viewer shows the Parent-Child relationships and the Publications at each level of the BluePrint hierarchy. In the Home tab, you can perform actions such as creating or deleting Child Publications and or removing Parent Publications. The View tab shows BluePrint relationships in different ways.

Before you begin

If you have the System Administration Privilege you are authorized to perform all tasks described here. Otherwise, to create a Child Publication, you require the Child Publication Creation Privilege; to delete Publications you require the System Administration Privilege; to modify a Publication or BluePrint, you need Publication Management rights.

About this task

You can select a Parent Publication and add a new Child Publication by creating a new Child. After you have created a Child Publication, it is only possible to add additional Parent Publications that share the same primary Parent Publication.

Procedure

  1. Open Content Manager Explorer.
  2. In the Publications navigation pane, select the Content Management node.
  3. In the list view, select a Publication.
  4. Open the Ribbon toolbar Organize tab and click BluePrint Hierarchy .
  5. In the Home tab of the BluePrint Viewer, you can perform the following actions depending on the Publication you select:
    OptionAction
    Where Used displays where an item is used.
    Properties displays the Properties of a Publication in the BluePrint hierarchy.
    Delete deletes a Child Publication.
    Create New Child creates a new Child Publication which is added to a Parent in the BluePrint hierarchy.
    Add Parent adds a Parent to a Child Publication.
    Remove Parent deletes a Parent of a Child Publication.
  6. In the View tab of the BluePrint Viewer, you can perform the following actions:
    OptionAction
    Select an item/Publication and click Show Parents to highlight the selected Publication's Parents (the Publications that are not Parents of the selected Publication are dimmed out).
    Select an item/Publication and click Show Children to highlight the selected Publication's Children (the Publications that are not Children of the selected Publication are dimmed out).
    Click Show Used in to view the items the item is used in.
    Select an item and click Show Inheritance Path to highlight where the item shares its content from.

    Zoom Out the diagram.
  7. At the bottom of the BluePrint Viewer you can see information about the context Publication, that is, the Publication from which the BluePrint Viewer was opened, and the current Publication selected in the BluePrint hierarchy. If you opened the BluePrint Viewer from an item, the same area also displays item information.
  8. In the BluePrint hierarchy diagram displayed in the BluePrint Viewer, the following visual indicators are used:
    • A solid blue background indicates the Publication from which BluePrint Viewer was invoked.
    • A blue border indicates the current item (the context item) selected in the BluePrint.
    • The name of shared items are displayed in italics.
    • Publications which do not contain a copy of the selected item are dimmed.
    • If an item has been localized in a Child Publication, the line to the Parent Publication is dotted.
  9. Click Close to exit the BluePrint Viewer.
