Audience Manager and Outbound E-mail functionality introduced in SDL Web 8

This section describes what's new and what has changed in Audience Manager between versions 2013 SP1 and 8.1.

The Where used function
The Where used function now displays Audience Manager items.
Configuring subscription confirmation e-mails

The following information is of particular interest to customers who are upgrading from a previous version of SDL Tridion to SDL Web 8.

Due to the way synchronization has changed, the method of configuring information to be used in subscription confirmation e-mails has been redesigned.

In previous versions of SDL Tridion, it was only possible to configure four defined events in the OutboundEmail.xml file. Now you can configure the type of confirmation email you want to send, and define any kind of event. You can now have a default that applies to all e-mails, or you can have defaults with different ids and reference those default ids for the pages you want.

Also, the page to be rendered is configured as a WebDAV URL in the new <Page> element in the OutboundEmail.xml file (this is best practice and is preferred to using TCM URIs).

Selecting Publication Targets on the mailing screen is no longer possible
The drop-down list on the mailing screen where you could select a Publication Target has been removed. It is possible to set Publication Targets through the API. Customers who are upgrading to SDL Web 8 can continue to use the Publication Target for their existing Mailings.
Improvements to synchronization

The synchronization process now safeguards against accidentally synchronizing two different Content Manager servers to the same Content Delivery environment. The synchronization logic has been simplified, resulting in fewer errors and improved performance.

Managing Contact Details
It is now possible to add new Contact Details fields in the Audience Manager section of SDL Web, under Settings. The Contact Details fields are automatically added to the Subscription Management database on your Content Delivery environments during synchronization. Other features under Settings include:
  • Changing the label displayed for a Contact Detail (in any supported UI language)
  • Hiding a Contact Detail from the search options -- or making it only accessible through the API (Hide in the user interface)
  • Changing which field is used for e-mail communications
  • Moving Contact Detail fields up or down - this affects the order everywhere in the UI
  • Selecting the columns that are displayed in Contact lists
  • Changing the details included in the tooltips of Contacts
Some toolbar buttons have been moved

Most of the New… buttons have been moved to the Create tab in the toolbar. The buttons that can only be used by administrators have been moved to the Administration toolbar.
