Configuring Contact Detail fields

The Audience Manager Settings allow you to configure individual Contact Detail fields for settings such as field display name, field type and Mandatory field flag.

Before you begin

  • The procedure described in this task must only be executed by an SDL Web System Administrator.
  • Before you add or modify fields, synchronized targets must already be set up.
  • The Extended Details fields in the Content Manager and the Presentation System databases must be the same.

About this task

The changes you make to Contact Detail fields are automatically synchronized from the Audience Manager database to the Subscription database(s).

Procedure

  1. From the slide-out navigation menu, select Settings.
  2. Click the Audience Manager option at the top of the screen.
  3. To add a new field, click the Add Contact Detail button and enter the details in the New Contact Detail section on the right of the screen.
  4. If you want to edit an existing field, select the field name you want to configure from the list on the left side of the screen.
  5. Configure the following settings:
    SettingDescription
Field NameThe technical field name. Only configurable when adding new fields.
LabelThe field name as displayed in the user interface.
Show other languagesField names in languages other than English (optional).
Field TypeOne of Text, Number (whole), Number (decimal) or Date. Only modifiable when adding new fields.
Mandatory fieldIf selected, the field is mandatory and cannot be saved until a value has been added to it. You cannot add Mandatory fields if you already have Contacts, because there wouldn't be a value in that field. Mandatory fields are marked with a red asterisk in the user interface.
Used for identificationIf selected, the field is used for identifying Contacts (the field also becomes Mandatory). You can specify multiple fields to be used for identification. For example, if an organization has multiple web sites with different brands, a combination of brand and e-mail address can be used to identify the Contacts who will receive your e-mails.
Used for e-mailIf selected, this is the field that will be used as the receiving e-mail address for your e-mails.
Show everywhereIf selected, the field is displayed in all user interfaces.
Hide only in search and filteringIf selected, the field contents are not searchable when using the Filter Contacts feature.
Hide the user interfaceIf selected, the field is only accessible through the API.
  6. Click Apply Changes to save your changes.
