Content Manager functionality introduced in SDL Web 8
In this release, new functionality in Content Manager focuses on the new publishing framework, introduces demotion and promotion in BluePrinting, and extends the functionality of non-checked-in items, among others.
- Promotion and demotion of items in the BluePrint hierarchy
Users can now move content items to a higher node in the BluePrint hierarchy (promotion) or to a lower node (demotion). This functionality has been applied throughout the product. - Richer functionality for non-checked-in items
In response to customer requests, the operations that a user can perform on a non-checked-in item have been expanded. - PowerShell script for tracing
Implementers can use a new tool, available as a PowerShell script, to perform in-depth tracing of Content Manager activities. - Options for graceful shutdown, decommissioning and synchronization of components for publishing
Various new tools and scripts help to maintain and manage the new publishing environment more easily. The features described here do not work with the deprecated old publishing framework. - Empty publish transactions result in a warning
Previously, if a publish action resulted in no items being resolved, a publish transaction with 0 items was created, which harmed performance. As of SDL Web 8, no publish transaction is created and a warning to this effect is logged. - Dispose method implemented for Core Service and Import Export Service WCF proxies
The session-aware Core Service client, normal Core Service client and Import Export client, all automatically generated WCF proxies, now have aDisposemethod, which performs application-specific tasks associated with freeing, releasing and resetting unmanaged resources. - New advanced publishing options
Additional advanced publishing options (exposed in the Content Manager Explorer and Experience Manager user interfaces) allow the user to override typical publishing business rules.
