Content Manager items used in Web sites
When you publish content, various Content Manager items are combined to create the content displayed in an SDL Web-based Web site.
The following is a list of the main items in the Content Manager that combine to produce Web content:
- Components are the basic building blocks of Web content that content (without look & feel) that can be displayed in a Web page.
- Component Templates visualize (some or all of) the content contained in a Component. Component Templates can also include scripting that adds dynamic behavior to the Component.
- Components and Component Templates combine to form Component Presentations, fragments of HTML and possibly script code, that can be part of a Web page.
- Pages are used to produce Web page on the Web site. A Page almost always contains one or more Component Presentations.
- Page Templates visualize Pages to produce Web pages. A Page Template may contain a database query that results in a set of Component Presentations being added to the Page.
- Structure Groups are containers for Pages. They correspond to Web folders on the Web site and may also be used in the automatic generation of menus for Web site navigation.
- Categories & Keywords are used to classify content and may be used in the automatic generation of menus for Web site navigation.
