Creating Dynamic Component Templates

In the Content Manager Explorer you can open a Compound Component Template and set whether Component Presentations based on this Component Template will be added dynamically or statically to a Page.

Procedure

  1. Open the Content Manager Explorer.
  2. Navigate to a Publication and open a Folder that contains Compound Component Templates.
  3. Open the Compound Component Template by double-clicking it, or by right-clicking it and selecting Open from the context menu.
  4. In the General tab, specify the behavior of Component Presentations that use this Component Template. In the Component Presentations based on this Component Template will be drop-down menu:
    • Select Published embedded on a Page if you have a static Web site or if the Component Presentations you create using this Component Template will only appear on one Web page on your Web site.
    • Select Published as a dynamic Component if you have a dynamic Web site and if the Component Presentations you create using this Component Template are likely to appear on multiple Web pages on your Web site.
  5. If you select Published as a dynamic Component, the Allow on Page using dynamic assembly check box appears. Selecting the check box means that end users in Content Manager Explorer can manually add a Component combined with this Component Template to a Page (dynamic inclusion). Deselecting the check box means that Component Presentations created using this Component Template can only be added to a Web page by a query or other code on the Web site.
  6. Click Save and Close to update the Compound Component Template.
